A Brief Introduction of Taichung Municipal Feng Yuan Senior High School

Feng Yuan Senior High School was founded in 1968 in accordance with the government’s nine-year compulsory education policy. In February of the same year, the former principal of Provincial Taichung First Senior High School, Mr. Chou Feng-chi,was appointed to take charge of the whole construction. In the meantime, Mr. Liao Jung-shiung, recommended by representatives from all walks of life in Fengyuan, formed a committee to help with the construction. Soon after that, Taiwan Provincial Government bought the adjacent land to Taichung First Senior High School’s branch school--Wongtz branch school-- altogether about 12 acres, as the new school’s site.

In April of the same year, the first stage of construction began officially. In July,  the newly-founded school was for the first time on the list of the Joint Entrance Exam to Senior High Schools of Central Taiwan and recruited 5 classes, with the students totaling 250. On August 5, Feng Yuan Senior High School was formally founded. Mr. Cheng Ji-meng, principal of Provincial Magung Senior High School then, was transferred to the post of the first principal of Provincial Feng Yuan Senior High School. The operation of the newly-founded school was initiated on September 1, 1968. Till now it has had a history of 34 years.

When this school was founded, all the juniors and seniors were transferred from the senior section of former Fengyuan Middle School. The freshmen were admitted through the Joint Entrance Exam. As a result, the quality as well as the university admission rate has been raised year after year. So far, this school has graduated 33 batches of graduates on a yearly basis. In 1984, an art experimentation class was initiated. Now there are 42 regular classes and 3 art classes, with the students totaling approximately 2000.

The first principal of Feng Yuan Senior High School, Cheng Ji-meng , had been in office for thirteen and a half years till February 1982, when he was transferred to Provincial Tainan Second Senior High School. Then, principal of Provincial Da Jia Industrial Senior High School, Sha Jen-an, succeeded to the office. After Mr. Sha retired in September 1983, Wang Jeng-shian , principal of Feng Dung Junior High School, served as the next principal. In August 1991, Mr. Wang’s 8-year term of office expired and was asked to transfer to Taichung Home Economical and Commercial Senior High School. Mr. Changliao Guei-yang, principal of Da Hu Agricultural Senior High School, was thus assigned the position. Mr. Changliao retired in August 1995 and the principal of Taichung School for the Visually Impaired, Chang Tz-chiang, consequently assumed the position. The management of the past four principals and the cooperation between teachers and students laid a strong foundation for this school.

The former principal, Mr. Chang Tz-chiang, took office on Aug 1,1995. He was a man of vision, serving candidly, enthusiastically and ambitiously. He spared no effort to cultivate humanistic qualities and a studious atmosphere. Plans were drafted to beautify the campus, improve teaching facilities, renovate student dormitories, rebuild Art-promoting Building, and requisition land designated for the school.

In February 2002, Mr. Chang Tz-chiang was elected principal of National Taichung School for the Visually Impaired. On Aug 1 of the same year, Mr. Tzeng Ying-sen, principal of Shi Yuan Senior High School of Taichung City then, was selected by Ministry of Education as the sixth principal of this school. Mr. Tzeng has dedicated himself to education for more than thirty years. Before he served as principal of this school, he had succesively held the posts of a teacher, head of teaching, dean of studies, and principal of junior high school. Mr. Tzeng is an educational worker with a clear educational concept , and great enthusiasm for education. He makes great effort to achieve the goals of molding a high-quality school style and uplifting the school reputation. He deems it a duty to cultivate the students with a global view, technological knowledge and multiple abilities.

In additon to the continued upgrowth of the Fine Arts Class, this school elaborately designed by the incumbent principal Mr. Tzeng is flourishing. Cautious and attentive, Mr. Tzeng works step by step to create an “e-learning” environment with a computer installed in every classroom, to build the third language laboratory for enhancing English teachimg quality, to give Japanese classes for students to receive the second language training, to pave the playground with the up-to-date PP-track, to initiate the English Talent Class and plan various talent classes for other subjects. With the above-mentioned hardware and software, this school is going on its way to becoming a “learning paradise” where young boys and young girls take advantage of the ideal teaching facilities, and receive liberal and moral education. Naturally, they mold themselves into well-educated and well-behaved youths, who can thus expect a promising future.

This school, situated in the east of Fengyuan, is a very beautiful place. Being far from downtown and the simple school style make this school an ideal learning environment. Through the efforts of the teachers and students, we believe this school will be a first-rate learning place in central Taiwan!
